Filing for bankruptcy just got a little more expensive.
Petition filing fees rose by $7 effective Tuesday, according to a notice posted on the website of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas in San Antonio.
It now costs $306 to file Chapter 7. Chapter 13 cases, used by individuals to reorganize their debts, now cost $281. Chapter 11 cases, generally for business reorganizations, now cost $1,046.
Other fees have also increased. For example, the fee to file an adversary proceeding in bankruptcy increased $43 to $293. A complete list of the fee increases can be found here.
Starting April 1, the cost to view federal court records through the court’s PACER service will increase to 10 cents a page from 8 cents a page.
PACER users who do not accrue charges of more than $15 in a quarterly billing cycle will not be charged. That’s up from $10 a month.
